I AM DOING THIS BECAUSE

  • Helping people is what makes me who I am and simply makes me happy.
  • I am engaged with all variety people on a daily bases and understand that want certain changes.
  • My professional standards of honesty and caring are the very traits I think are important in a community leader.
  • I have many worries about what things are going to be like in 40 years, by getting involved I am hoping to make things better for my kids.
  • I like to design better ways, not just solve problems. Things can be done better but we need a different more proactive and unifying longterm approach from the government.

HEALTH PRINCIPLES

“Health services influences on where people choose to live, Dunedin will grow simply by having a world class health service.”

REBUILD OF DUNEDIN HOSPITAL - LETS DO THIS, RIGHT!

My proposal is to split the Dunedin hospital rebuild over two locations and two stages. Stage One would utilise the current Wakari Hospital site and start immediately. This stage will result in wards and care accommodation that will be fit for purpose for 100 years. Stage Two, will take 10-15 years and will redevelop the vacated space of the current site in conjunction with the University and community to have produce a world class teaching facility and hospital.

Who will pay for it? … I see the best option as a Private/Public funding mix between ACC, NZ Superannuation fund & the SDHB. Any profits will then be retained for the greater good of the country.

SOUTHERN DHB

I want all parties to confirm that the election of a Southern DHB will happen in 2019. The community is entitled to it representation and an elected board will improve transparency and start rebuilding trust.

MENTAL HEALTH

Stage one of the hospital rebuild will focus on producing a very large number of ward space and self-care community style care facilities specifically to provide all levels of support to reduce fragmentation.

ECONOMIC PRINCIPLES

“In 40 years we need a more self sufficient New Zealand, we need to identify required industries which have been lost overseas and train people to do these jobs again, I believe it is possible to be part of a global community and be self sufficient.”

  • Support minimum standard of living to ensure everyone is safe happy and well, but would move towards between straight financial support and non-cash or indirect payments
  • The books must balance, so we should not be affraid to pay taxes if we are getting value in return.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRINCIPLES

“It is crazy if “our” money is sent overseas as a consequence of a global environmental arrangement, it should be spent directly on correcting our environment and helping the worst environmental offenders here”

EDUCATIONAL PRINCIPLE

“Free education for all people 20 years of age and under. We need children knowing early on that they have this educational opportunity and even if have some earlier setbacks they can re-enter the education system”

GOVERNMENT PRINCIPLES

New Zealand needs independent members of parliament that will support good ideas and oppose bad ones according to the best available evidence not just party lines.
